Full of wanderlust, chasing light, dancing with the trees, living and loving life barefoot and with a camera in my hand.
Monday morning at 9:45 I went into the doctor for my 39 week checkup. My blood pressure was high so they decided to walk me over to labor and delivery for monitoring. When I got to labor and delivery my blood pressure had stabilized, my blood and urine came back clean, I was contracting fairly regularly so my doctor was going to send me home with expectations that she would see me back there soon. At my 9:45 appointment I was dilated 1.5-2cm at 10:45 the doctor checked my cervix while telling me I was probably going home and I was dilated to 5. They decided to admit me, let me labor for 2-3 hours on my own and then see if they needed to start me on pitocin.
It was so nice. Since I was laboring naturally I didn’t have to have an IV, they brought me a birth ball to bounce on, I could feel the contractions but they weren’t very painful at all. I kept telling Dylan “This is so weird, I don’t even feel like I’m in labor”
Around twoish the doctor came in, checked my cervix again and I was at 7cm, she broke my water and I continued to labor
They decided to start pitocin around 5 because I was still at 7cm and my contractions were only about 5 minutes apart. Things got painful after that. Everyone there was so nice. They kept coming in and telling me how beautiful I was and how they didn’t believe I was in labor at all because of how good I looked and how quiet I was being. I was completely off in my own world.
fast foreword to about 9pm- They came in, checked me again and I was still only around 7.5-8 but Eloise was at a -2 she hadn’t even made it into my birth canal yet. The doctor couldn’t believe it she kept saying “well this isn’t normal, I don’t like this”. My cervix was also still fairly thick for how dilated I was.
She then told me we needed to get this baby out of me as soon as possible, her heart rate was all over the place, and with her not even being in the birth canal yet I could tell they were worried. She suggested I get an epidural to see if when my body relaxed it would put Eloise where she needed to be. I was devastated because I was SO close but I knew I needed to do what was best for her and I wanted to avoid a c section so I accepted the epidural. They gave me the lowest dose so I could still feel pressure and the tightening of the contractions and within about 30 minutes or so I literally felt her drop into my birth canal. They checked me and sure enough she was at a +2 and ready to be born.
I pushed 5 times and she was out! her cord was wrapped around her neck and she was literally in the process of pooping as they pulled her out. She as born at 10:05PM weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces and she is 20 inches long.
All in all I had an amazing experience. It was so beautiful. I was super disappointed in myself about the epidural but now I’m proud. I labored all by myself until the last hour of my pregnancy and that’s something to be proud of.
I delivered at a different hospital than I did with Emily. It was amazing, I was so impressed. They encouraged immediate skin to skin contact and breastfeeding, they did EVERYTHING bedside so we were always involved and she was never away from me for a second.
She is beautiful. I am so so in love. We all are.
